Revenge is worth its weight in gold.
When her father is murdered for a journal revealing the location of a hidden gold mine, eighteen-year-old Kate Thompson disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers—and justice. What she finds are untrustworthy strangers, endless dust and heat, and a surprising band of allies, among them a young Apache girl and a pair of stubborn brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow. But as Kate gets closer to the secrets about her family, a startling truth becomes clear: some men will stop at nothing to get their hands on gold, and Kate’s quest for revenge may prove fatal.

"The hurt fades with time. Course, that's assuming you don't ride the of vengeance... That path's like rubbing salt in a wound." - Erin Bowman, Vengeance Road
Kate was a kickass cowgirl who didn't take shit from anybody and had a will filled with vengeance strong enough to drown someone just by looking at them. I was overall happy reading Kate's story. She was a strong main character who believed in family and could shoot a gun. I definitely connected with Kate even though she isn't exactly my twin, but I could feel and understand where she was coming from, what she was doing, and why she was doing it. Kate definitely is not a hero saving the day, and she may a few touches of darkness in her, but what's not to love?
"Am I more bad than good, more revenge than forgiveness?" - Erin Bowman, Vengeance Road
Jesse and Will were great. I could think of the time they made me laugh and the times they made me want to punch a wall. Jesse and Will were just about as good as cowboys can get. I loved both of them, and could not think of two other people who could accompany Kate in her journey, even if it was under less willing circumstances.
"I ain’t a Rose Rider. I want ‘em dead just like you, and alls you’s done is lose me a horse and get yerself killed." - Erin Bowman, Vengeance Road
Romance was laced into the book and although it was not the main concern, it still sparked me as a hardcore shipper/romantic. I was happy to be able to read a mix of genres I never knew I would like.
The writing style of the book was exactly my cup of tea. It was tough, enjoyable, and had that touch of western in the way they spoke that I couldn't shake off the feeling that this book was giving me. Definitely a book I recommend to all of you!
tell me: do you think you would read this book?
